Hi All! Allow me to introduce myself a bit better. I have had a unique professional background and while everything hasn’t gone quite as I had planned, I wouldn’t change a thing!
A native of Warren, NJ, I relocated to the Boston, MA area in 2012, immediately after obtaining my MBA at Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ. Prior to beginning my graduate studies, I had been pursuing a career in sports broadcasting. After graduating from Syracuse’s prestigious Newhouse School of Public Communications, I worked as a sports anchor & reporter in both Morgantown, WV & Buffalo, NY. During that time, I had a chance to attend some really exciting sporting events, help launch a brand new Time Warner 24-hour station in Buffalo, hone my storytelling ability, and learn to work incredibly well under pressure and strict deadlines. I also learned that I did not want to lead the nomadic life of a television reporter forever, despite it originally being my lifelong dream. Talk about an incredibly tough and risky decision, but I didn’t want to look back in 20 years and regret not trying to find something else that truly made me happy.
So, enter the MBA (I wanted to have a more well-rounded background in business) and my now current boyfriend (from Everett, MA) who I met while visiting a good friend in Massachusetts. Those two things led me to an opportunity to work at TJX (owners of TJ Maxx, Marshalls & Homegoods) in Framingham, MA. I took on an analyst position as a way to try something completely different than what I been previously doing. I consider myself to be both extremely creative as well as very analytical, and I thought it would be beneficial to see if working with data and numbers in a much more “normal” job than I’d had before would be something I would enjoy. I learned pretty quickly that while I did not miss the world of journalism & TV news, I did miss the art of storytelling and getting to write and be creative on a daily basis. It was a great lesson to learn because it allowed me to translate those journalism skills into the marketing world, which got me to where I’m at today, working as a Marketing Content Manager at Fiksu.
Outside of work, I love sports (obviously). Sorry Boston but it’s Yankees & Giants all the way. I also like the Lakers (long story that doesn’t make a ton of sense but hey I was 10 when I picked the team). I love theater and movies and all things entertainment. I also love to eat and shop and am continuing to explore all of the exciting restaurants and shopping areas in and around the Boston/New England area.
Hopefully that helps give a little more context to who I am and how I got to be where I am today, a well-rounded professional eager to continue advancing in my professional career!
Hey there Samantha! Great to see you blogging. Hope all is well and good luck with the job hunt…. or entrepreneurial venture!
